Glenrothes May Face Bombing Raids

Political officials in Washington called on the ruling Labour / Liberal Democrat Coalition to hand over Henry McLeish who is at the centre of a financial scandal over payments allegedly made by two legal firms in exchange for sub-letting McLeish's constituency office in Glenrothes.

It is understood that unsubstantiated comments allegedly broadcast on Al Jazeera television have led some commentators to believe that a wave of air strikes focussing on Glenrothes deep in the heart of McLeish's constituency may be on the horizon if McLeish is not delivered to U.S. justice officials. The Lib/Lab Coalition are believed to have offered to let U.K. police and Inland Revenue representatives investigate the claims against Mr McLeish, but this route has been ruled out according to sources thought to be close to President George W. Bush.

A White House employee who asked not to be named (and may therefore not exist) said,

"We are not in the business of negotiating with groups whom we believe have benefitted at the expense of innocent taxpayers."

A spokesman claiming to speak for Downing Street called for restraint, "It's a little premature to talk of bombing raids, the evidence against Henry - if there is any - has not yet been made public."

Meanwhile, McLeish is believed to be hiding out in a complicated maze of wine bars and gentlemen's clubs in the remote St Andrews area where he set up base some time ago. For now it is McLeish's supporters who are left to answer the awkward and incessant questions over the whereabouts of alleged sums of money which may or may not have been accounted for.

A full statement on the matter is expected from McLeish some time in the new millennium.
